Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operates the controls for winches, booms, and spray equipment.
Load and unload trucks by hand or booms, winches, skids, and dollies.
Lays out materials, tools, and equipment at work site and furnishes to climbers.
Drives truck with an attached trailer or trailer/chipper.
Transports a tree trimming crew and their tools, materials, and equipment.
Follows hand, voice, or other signals in positioning the truck at the work site and in operating associated equipment.
Load and unload trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris and/or feed brush into a gasoline- powered chipper.
Repair slight damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming.
Services gasoline, air and hand-powered tools and other equipment.
Gives and relays hand signals and directs traffic.
Drives and operates trucks and equipment as assigned.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be at least 21 years of age if position requires interstate driving.
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
Must pass a drug/alcohol screen upon offer of employment.
May be required to pass physical abilities test/post offer screen for employment.
Possession of a valid Driver’s license.
Possess or acquire within 90 days a Commercial Driver’s license.
Have an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills &Abilities
Knowledge of and/or ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge and/or ability to properly prune various trees species.
Knowledge and/or ability to tie basic knots including but not limited to: bowline, Blake’s hitch, taut line hitch, and clove hitch.
Knowledge and/or ability to use lowering techniques, knot tying, saw maintenance and devices as related to tree work in the field.
Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in the development and maintenance of trees.
Must be proficient in proper tree groundwork including but not limited to: basic tree pruning and tree removal.
Knowledge of and/or ability to learn mechanics.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
Must be capable of performing emergency rescue procedures involving the lowering of an employee to the ground.
Experience with a tree care/maintenance program preferred, including but not limited to: operation of stump grinder, chipper, chipper truck, bucket truck, and other tree-related equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to report for work on time and to perform the duties of the job for an entire workday.
Must be able to work flexible hours with some weekend and/or holiday required.
Must be able to perform frequent overtime work, which may involve early morning or late night hours.
Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing more than 60 pounds with assistance.
Must successfully complete a proficiency test consisting of: climbing a ladder; knot tying; chain saw maintenance; the safe and proper handling and operation of chain saws, chippers, and stump grinders; and demonstrate proper tree groundwork abilities using a variety of equipment including but not limited to ropes, pole pruner, etc.
This classification may require the use of personal or company vehicles on company business.
Must be required to pass a Department of Transportation physical exam.
